In One of the most anticipated games this season saw Liverpool visit Manchester City at the Etihad. The Reds returned into action after recently being crowned the Champions and well they received the guard of honor which to be honest was about the only thing Pep’s men were ready to give!
From the get go City show intent they were eventually rewarded. They took complete control with a devastating first-half display in which they scored three goals within 20 minutes. Phil Foden further displayed his impressive skills after slotting home before half-time following a quick exchange with De Bruyne. By this time Liverpool looked like a shadow of themselves or at least still hangover from the celebrations!
City scored their fourth in the second half when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain inadvertently slid the ball into his own net from Sterling’s low shot summing up the horrid evening for the Reds.
The Reds started well, pressing and harrying their opponents and even managed to strike the post through Salah, but capitulated once the first goal went in and never managed to recover.
City were ruthless all night showing that they are still the team to beat showcasing a trailer of what is to come next season.
It was another brilliant display by Kevin De Bruyne who to be honest picked from where he left before the lockdown!
Despite their only second loss of the season, Klopp will not be impressed by the Reds display in this game especially coming from an impressive show against Crystal Palace. All in all Liverpool are still in course to get the 100 points mark if they manage to bag 15 points from a possible 18 which will take them to 101 points, one better than City’s total from the 2017-18 season.
This result would have been more catastrophic if Liverpool were still chasing the Premier League, and lets just say it was a humbling experience for the Reds and a statement of intent from Pep’s men!
