I had the privilege to attend an event by the betting firm Betika which saw the launch of Betika na community Initiative at the Park Inn by Radisson hotel. An initiative that aims to develop sports in the grassroots by providing kits, sponsorships and accessories in stadiums with an aim to support 700 county/local teams countrywide. Giving the speech was Head of Commercial John Mbatia. Betika is also planning to get involved in art and culture where the have set aside KSH 100M to support various local art initiatives.
On the same event Betika renewed their sponsorship deal with Sofapaka FC worth KSH 35M plus add ons. A deal that saw an increment from the previous year. A deal described as a fantastic partnership by Mr Mbatia. The deal was welcomed by Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa. “I want to thank Betika for sticking with us through the years and everything they have done to us.”
The betting firm also plans to get involved in road and safety where they plan to deliver 100,000 safety jackets and bikes to be distributed all over the country to support the men and women in the bodaboda industry. Mr Mbatia also insisted that the company will always advocate for responsible betting and in support Betika introduced a helpline for counseling for individuals who are struggling with addiction. Helpline No- 0800724835. They will be the first betting company in Kenya to provide these services!
So far very good initiatives that will really help especially in growing talent from the grassroots then into the national level a gap that had existed for a long time due to lack of resources which will eventually lead to the improvement in the quality of sports.
All in all an all round colorful event filled with fun and games where at the end David Nyaga (www.twitter.com/am_dagi) an influencer was able to walk away with the iPhone 11 from a random draw that was held as the event concluded.
