Monday night sees a clash of two teams who at the moment have been very inconsistent. As an outsider looking in I see two teams with a lot of similarities in that they are both undergoing a transition period, have won crucial games and at the same time lost to ‘lesser’ opponents. Both teams have also only won 1 of their last 5 games!
Despite being 6 points ahead of Manchester United,Chelsea’s form at home this season has been very poor where they have only won 5 and lost to the likes of Bournemouth, West Ham and Southampton at home. Chelsea also face a tough run of fixtures which will see them face Tottenham, Bayern Munich (UCL), Bournemouth and Liverpool(FA CUP) in a span of 10 days!
In terms of team news Lampard has confirmed Pulisic won’t be available on Monday while Tammy Abraham might just be available after suffering an injury against Leicester. Another headache that Lampard has to deal with is either to call up Kepa whose form in recent time has been poor or continue with Caballero between the sticks.
On the other hand United fans will claim that their team is now finding a rhythm and are more settled compared to Chelsea even though it has not translated into results with no wins in their last 3 matches! They are 6 points shy of Chelsea in the 4th position. United however have managed to beat or draw with the so called ‘big’ teams this season; Chelsea at Old Trafford(Win), Leicester(Draw), Arsenal(Draw), Tottenham(Win), Manchester City(Win) and Liverpool(Draw)
United will still be without Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Scott Mctominay- who has just recently returned to full training and this game might be too soon to feature. On the other hand Ighalo might get his debut with Bruno Fernandes expected to get his away debut.
Kick off: Monday 23.00(EAT)
It is going to be a tight affair at the Bridge and the team that takes its chances will get the 3 points.
